✧ Learn to use shakers, rattles, and other percussion to create subtle rhythms, feel and create the spaces and the silences.
✧ Begin to feel comfortable with using both hands rhythmically.
✧ Rhythmic groove, playing in time and having a natural feel for rhythm is an essential part of music and music making. Feeling the space between the beats and exploring group dynamics, interplay and polyrhythmic exercises with shakers, is a great way to understand your own ‘inner clock’ and how to understand the intricacies of space, balance and trust.
✧ How do we respond to rhythm in an improvisational context. Where in the room does the balance and dynamic sound, feel like music.

🟠 SUNDAY 14th AUGUST:

“Didgeridoo, Circular Breathing and Overtone Singing” One-day Workshop with Ronan Skillen and Nestor Kornblum

✧ Learn the technique of Circular Breathing; the ancient Aboriginal secret of creating a constant flow of air to play the didgeridoo, which can also be applied to some wind instruments.
✧ Didgeridoos have often been labelled as primitive or simplistic instruments due to their nature. It’s just a pipe, a tree trunk or hollow tube. There’s no written music or fundamental, contemporary understanding of what the didgeridoo should be known as, and yet the very nature of this instrument, lends itself to endless possibilities and developing your very own style, because of its simplicity.
✧ Explore overtone scales and specific tonal dynamics using long notes and breath control.
✧ Rhythmic composition and stamina training for continuous play, involving circular breathing and developing your own personal playing style.
✧ Nestor will assist with beginners, and will later teach the basics of Overtone Singing, an ancient technique that enables one to sing two sounds at the same time: These overtones or harmonics sound just like a flute playing above the hum of your voice.
✧ You will learn about the origins and theory of the technique, as well as exercises to learn how to project the overtones in your voice. Anyone can learn to do this!
