Harmonic Sounds® The Association of Sound Therapy Since 1995

M&N

Michele Averard and Nestor Kornblum are directors and co-founders of the Association of Sound Therapy. Nestor and Michele are a dynamic husband-and-wife team that have worked together since 1995, educating thousands of people in all aspects of the therapeutic power of Sound.

Together they have 3 children and are based in Alicante, Spain where they teach Sound Healing in their centre “The Dome Centre”.

They conduct intensive courses on the healing and transformational uses of sound, with a focus particularly on the voice. Through vocal harmonics (overtone singing) and many other vocal techniques, in addition to professional education in Sound Therapy techniques with a number of musical instruments: singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks and others, a course participant is taken on a ‘Sound Journey’ through the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of sound.

Employing knowledge which ranges from ancient shamanic practices to modern scientific techniques, Nestor and Michele ensure that everybody also receives and takes home useful and powerful tools and processes for use in personal and planetary transformation. Their renowned Sound Healer Training prepares participants to become fully qualified and Practicing Sound Therapists, empowered to give individual sound healing – therapy sessions, Group sessions as in Sound Journeys (sound ‘baths’) and planetary healing ceremonies or processes.

We refer to ‘Planetary healing’ because sound spreads out in all directions from the source. When a group of people tone or sing together with a common intention, they create a waveform that can literally influence consciousness on a global scale.

Nestor and Michêle have produced 13 Cd’s of healing music and have been interviewed and featured in television and radio programs in several countries. Their music has received acclaim from therapists in all areas of healing and transformation for their ability to create states of deep relaxation, stress release and healing on the physical, energetic, and mental levels.

Since their beginnings they have had great collaborations with organizations and artists of the world. They have participated in countless events, festivals and expos all over the world.

Both Nestor and Michele have collaborated or trained with other leading pioneers in Sound and other modalities, including Jonathan Goldman, Jill Purce, Fabien Maman, Arden Wilken, Robert Harris (European School of Craniosacral Therapy). They have also worked with shamans, indigenous medicine men and women of different traditions such as South African Sangoma, The Good Red Road, the 13 Grandmothers, Roy Littlesun and others.

Co-director and co-founder of both the Association of Sound Therapy and Harmonic Studies and the International Association of Sound Therapy, she is an internationally recognized Sound Therapist, Workshop Facilitator, Singer-Songwriter, Multi-instrumentalist and Author of book “Free Your Voice, Heal Your Life”.

Born in London, England.  Her father was an actor and her mother a singer/actress. She was encouraged from an early age to develop her talents in the performing arts and so she attended The Arts Educational School in Tring and graduated from the Italia Conti Stage School.

During her early childhood, Michêle often felt the nurturing energy of the beautiful nature surrounding her home in Buckinghamshire. Being an only child, she spent many hours on her own wondering the woods and the fields. This is where she first connected with her voice and sang her healing Chants.

After leaving England at the age of sixteen she had many adventures around the world, including spending a year on a sailboat where she connected with the Sea and started writing her songs.

In 1989 she formed a soul/rock band which was successful and later recorded an album with her own  music and songs. She became very disillusioned with the superficial world of the music industry and felt a yearning to return to her childhood connection with sound and nature.

During her travels around the world she had encountered many interesting metaphysical teachers that had awakened her interest in the alternative therapies and Arts. In 1994 Michele decided to further examine the possibilities of healing with sound and began her exploration and investigation into its therapeutic uses.

For three years she studied Energy Management with Dutch clairvoyant Reina Arendson, which included chakra and Biofield balancing and healing; distance healing and energy reading. During this period Michêle also became a certified Reflexologist and Craniosacral Therapist with the European School of Craniosacral Therapy.

She was inspired by the teachings of Jill Pearce, Laeh Maggie Garfield, Joy Gardener-Gordon, Johnathan Goldman and Fabien Maman.

At first, she focused on individual therapy sessions, helping people connect with and express their own sound, assisting them to re-establish a resonance with their identity and subtle bodies. It became apparent that her special talent is a deep intuitive knowledge of what each individual needs to feel ‘in tune’ with themselves and their surroundings.

Having reconnected with the memories of her experience as a child singing her healing Chants in nature, she felt a great calling to share her enthusiasm and faith in the healing qualities of sound and Music. This led her to co-create together with her partner Nestor Kornblum, a unique methodology of harnessing vibration and intention. Together they established the Association of Sound Therapy and Harmonic Studies, from which they offer a fully comprehensive Sound healer training program that has trained thousands of Sound Therapists around the world since 1998.

In 2010 Michêle published her first book “Free your Voice, Heal your Life”, in English and Spanish, (Editorial Dilema). She is also co-owner of The Dome Centre, headquarters of the Association of Sound Therapy in Alicante (Spain), with her husband and co-author Nestor Kornblum.

During the last 25 years Michêle has also conducted courses for women which focus on the celebration of femininity and the healing of emotional and psychological issues from childhood through the use of various Sound techniques. She has worked with children, teaching sound awareness, basic energy work and musical improvisation.

She has collaborated in many musical projects and 12 years ago formed, and continues to direct, an all-women’s chanting group called “Las Voces de Gaia”. Together they have produced 2 Cd’s of Songs and Chants for inspiring people to sing along and keep the chants alive. They perform throughout the year in festivals and cultural events.

Michêle plays a variety of instruments such as: Guitar, Tambura, Monochord, Native American drum and Flute, Tibetan Bowls, Gong and other acoustic instruments.

Co-director and co-founder of both The Association of Sound Therapy and Harmonic Studies (Spain) and the International Association of Sound Therapy, Nestor is an internationally acclaimed Sound Therapist and Overtone Singer. He is Author of the acclaimed guidebook on Overtone Singing with CD “Overtone Chant – The Practical Guide”.

Born and lived in Johannesburg until the age of 20. He comes from a very musical family, from both parents’ side of the family. Yet he never thought that it would be his destiny. After 2 years majoring in Law and English Literature at University, Nestor decided to abandon his law degree and go to Europe. He settled in London, where he worked first in fashion, and then in catering. He soon became a specialist oysterman at the renowned seafood restaurant, Bentley’s of London, and also worked in other prestigious locales catering to the rich and famous. He helped open and run Bentley’s of London in Hong Kong, and then spent 2 years working on the 5-star-plus cruise ship Sagafjord, twice circumnavigating the globe. He later finished his restaurant management training at the Swiss Centre in London.

Shortly after this period, he joined his father’s family in Spain, where he met and very soon married, singer-songwriter Michele Averard.

Aside from a brief encounter with the recorder and harp at the Rudolph Steiner Waldorf school at 6 years of age, and a year singing as a boy soprano in the local synagogue, he had no other musical experience until, at the age of 29, he discovered Overtone Singing. It was through his wife and lifetime partner in Sound, Michele Averard, that he first came into contact with overtones. She had learned a vocal technique at a workshop in the UK, and returned home and sang some overtones for him. He was immediately enchanted and tried it for himself. He heard his own overtones at once and experienced a deep feeling of peace, and it was then he decided to investigate further, into Overtone singing as well as the therapeutic power of sound, together with Michele.

Since 1995, Nestor has explored and practiced the ancient art of overtone singing, also referred to as vocal harmonics, with particular attention to its therapeutic and meditational uses. An experienced teacher, he has now taught thousands of people the techniques of overtone singing and Sound Healing on 5 continents. He was one of the first in the western world to master the “Deep Voice” overtone chanting employed by Tibetan monks and Tuvan and Mongolian singers, which enables him to sing up to four simultaneous notes, with a range of 5 octaves.

Together with his wife and partner in Sound, Michêle Averard, Nestor has facilitated and continues to facilitate one of the longest-running Sound Therapy Training courses in Europe, designed to empower participants to practice as Sound Therapists and incorporate Sound Healing into their other therapeutic modalities. Michêle and Nestor together developed this well-balanced and all-round training in voice and other sound healing tools and instruments.

He is regularly interviewed and has appeared on television many times, radio and in the press in the countries where he presently works, as an expert on Sound Therapy. Nestor is frequently invited to participate in Sound Healing Conferences, both live and online, alongside other leading Sound Healers.

Due to his knowledge and ability to sing audibly the Overtone Series (Harmonic Scale), he has lectured and given Master Classes in many Universities and Music Schools.

Nestor is an eloquent and charismatic speaker and teacher, able to express complex concepts in easily understood terms, with plenty of humour, and is no stranger to large audiences. He is thoroughly versed in the science and practice of Sound as a healing modality.

He plays a variety of instruments including Didgeridoo, Monochord, Tanpura, Jaw’s Harp, Overtone Flute, Native American Flute, Musical Mouth-Bow and Assorted Percussion.
